Mangalore Air Crash Compensation: Families Meet AI Express COO

Mangalore: The families of those who perished in the 2010 air crash in Mangalore led by Air India Crash Victims Families Association met Air India Express COO S Chandrakumar at Lal Bagh here on Monday December 5 to discuss the issue of compensation.
As many as 25 families were present. They complained to Chandrakumar that Air India had not compensated the families as per its promises. Some of the families had got very little amount, they said.
They also complained that Air India was biased in giving out compensation. "While some families have received compensation in crores, other have got in lacs. There are cases where the entire amount has not been given yet. Those who were promised Rs 40 lac got only Rs 20 lac," they said.
Chandrakumar said that R P Shahi, the former joint director general of civil aviation, had been appointed as an observer to help out the families with the issue of compensation. He asked the families to approach Shahi with any complaints.
He further said that 70 families have been compensated so far, with Rs 60 crore being distributed among families of 77 victims.
He also assured that a meeting would be convened on Monday December 12 to discuss the issue in detail. He asked the families to get a list of their complaints to the meeting so that a solution could be sought.
