Lucknow: With the last day of the year falling on Saturday, airlines have found a godsend opportunity to jack up the fares on all routes.
A ticket to Delhi that costs between Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,500, has shot up to between Rs 3,500 and Rs 6,000 per seat. Other routes are no exception. The average ticket price offered by even low-cost carriers like Go Air and Indigo stands at Rs 3,500 during the first week of the New Year. The national carrier Air India is a much more expensive at Rs 5,100.
Flying on Sunday, January 1, would cost even more. The going rate of an Indigo flight ticket to Delhi is Rs 7,000. Passengers flying to Patna too will have to shell out almost three times of what they have been paying. For instance, an air ticket in Indigo or Go Air flight between Lucknow and Patna is available at Rs 5,000. The problem was more for passengers who could not find a direct flight and had to take a hopping flight instead. Those flying to Kolkata had to shell out anything around Rs 20,000 for such a flight. Mumbai-bound passengers are also a harried lot following the rise in air fares.
