Pune: New airport plans still in dream mode

Pune: Pune's aspiration to an international airport seems to be a distant dream yet. The district administration is preparing a new proposal to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), suggesting four new sites.
"The venues that the Pune district administration would propose shall include the initial site selected at Rajgurunagar, at Chakan, and the recent one that (erstwhile divisional commissioner) Dilip Band had identified behind the site in Chakan," the new Pune divisional commissioner, Prabhakar Deshmukh, told reporters in his maiden press conference here on Wednesday.
According to him, the final decision on the location of the new airport would be taken by experts of the AAI. Several technical aspects — among them wind velocity and direction in the area, topography and obstacles — had to be taken in account before zeroing in on the site.
