Collector convenes all-party meet on Aranmula airport

Pathanamthitta: The all-party meeting convened by District Collector, P.Venugopal, here on Saturday to discuss the proposed private airport project at Aranmula has decided to recommend to the Government to denotify the 500 acres of land declared as industrial area in Aranmula, Mallappuzhassery and Kidangannur villages.
The meeting has also decided to stop all further proceedings with regard to the proposed private airport project till the notification declaring 500 acres of land spread across the three villages was withdrawn.
The decision was taken owing to strong opposition against the project from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Bharatiya Janata Party and representatives of the people’s action council.
Addressing the meeting, the Collector has sought co-operation from all quarters for materalising the airport project, reducing damage to the environment to the maximum possible extent in the larger interests of ensuring a development boom in the region.
