Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seizes Punj Lloyd plane on charges of duty evasion

New Delhi: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), the investigating agency that deals with import duty evasion, has seized a plane owned by the Delhi-based Punj Lloyd for violating Indian rules by allegedly flying domestic routes without being registered in the country.
Planes that are registered overseas are not subject to customs duty and are not meant to be flown domestically. But the DRI suspects organisations and companies of registering their planes outside India despite the fact that they are using them for domestic flights in order to avoid paying customs duty.
