Govt to re-look size of Bellary airport

Bangalore: To hold meeting in the wake of HC quashing acquisition of 250 acres of land
The State government is likely to take a re-look at the size of the proposed Bellary Green Field Airport project in the wake of Karnataka High Court quashing acquisition of about 250 acres of land meant for the project.
According to official sources, the Infrastructure Development Department (IDD) would recommend the concessionaire, Marg Limited, to trim down the size and re-work on the design of the
Rs 110 crore-project, based on the availability of land.
“The Government will shortly hold a meeting with the concessionaire and explore all possibilities, including re-working on the project size. We will take an appropriate decision in the interests of the State,” IDD Secretary Rajkumar Khatri said.
Of the total 950 acres of land required for the project, the Government is currently in possession of about 675 acres. The court, on Wednesday, quashed the acquisition of about 250 acres and directed the Government to consider afresh the demands of the land-losers to acquire their property. The petitioners had submitted that the Government did not give them any chance to file their objections, nor heard them during the acquisition process.
