18 sensitive airports to get advanced security gadgets: CISF

New Delhi: To strengthen security at 18 "sensitive" airports in the country, the CISF is set to deploy a variety of advanced scanning machines and arm its personnel with world class technology gadgets.
The paramilitary force guards a total of 58 airports at present and has categorised those at Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai and 12 others as sensitive on grounds of security considerations.
"We are using a host of gadgets for airport security and many more will be deployed in the future," Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) chief Rajiv told reporters at the annual press conference of the force today.
The Director General (DG) said that the much-awaited Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here has also been put for "trials" and is expected to be made operational soon.
