DRI investigating use of foreign registered aircraft in India

New Delhi: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has initiated investigations to ascertain if foreign registered aircraft are being used in India.
In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance S S Palanimanickam said that in 2010 one case was detected involving over Rs 8.85 crore worth customs duty evasion.
"... the customs duty has been recovered along with applicable interest of over Rs 4.67 crore, fine of Rs 40 lakh and penalty of Rs 30 lakh," he said.
In the year 2011, 7 cases have been detected and customs duty losses are yet to be quantified, Palanimanickam said.
