Labour department plans to introduce rate card at airport

Thiruvananathapuram: The Labour Department will address the nokkukuli issue at the airport by issuing a rate card for different categories of work. This card will be displayed prominently at the Trivandrum International Airport so that passengers and airport authority personnel will not be held to ransom.
Labour commissioner TT Anthony met with representatives of the CITU and Airport Authority of India on Tuesday to discuss the complaints regarding nokkukuli raised by airport director G Chandramouli that head-load workers had tried to forcibly carry the luggage of dealers of Tata Tiscon, who landed in the city on Saturday.
TT Anthony said that if the airport director wanted to he could prevent the entry of head-load workers into airport premises. "But they have been there for generations and have helped during the construction phase. So it will not be easy to prevent their entry. The most amicable solution would be to chalk out a rate card and paste it at a prominent place. The labour minister too finds this to be a feasible solution," said Anthony.
