Ex-aviation security official took favours from KF, Jet, says CBI chargesheet

Mumabi: If your fidelity to the country's civil aviation sector is fading fast then this might prove the tipping point. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has stated in a chargesheet that former additional commissioner of Bureau of Civil Aviation Securities (BCAS), Mumbai, Manoj Malviya, abused his official position to benefit certain airlines.
The charge sheet carries the version of top officials of the rank of executive director, vice-president and general manager from two airline companies -- Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines -- from which Malviya allegedly got favours.
"The chargesheet in the matter of Malviya is ready and we have also received sanction from ministry of home affairs (MHA) to prosecute him. The charges against Malviya are that he abused his official position to receive favours from Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines, which were further authenticated after questioning senior officials representing the carriers. He has been booked under Section 13(1)(d) in the Prevention of Corruption Act," said a CBI source. Under the circumstances, if corruption charges are proved against Malviya in a court of law, he can be jailed for up to seven years and would also be liable to pay a fine. Malviya has challenged the CBI investigation and the matter is being currently heard by Bombay High Court.
