Makemytrip removes Kingfisher Airlines from opaque fares scheme

New Delhi: In another blow to Kingfisher Airlines, leading travel portal makemyrtrip.com has removed the airlines' tickets from its 'opaque fares' offering, which allows a customer to avail of highly discounted airfares without knowing the carrier's name until payment is made.
The Vijay Mallya-owned airline has been trying to hard-sell its tickets through this route as it has lost passengers to other carriers due to abrupt cancellations and a consequent loss of customer confidence.
"We have removed Kingfisher Airlines from opaque selling to avoid any customer-related issues. Opaque fares will continue with all other participating airlines. Once Kingfisher normalises its operations and more importantly its perception we will be happy to introduce them on opaque," makemytrip.com COO Keyur Joshi told ET.
Well-known travel portals like makemytrip.com, yatra.com and goibibo.com are offering 'opaque fares', described variously as discount or special fares by the portals, to largely get rid of tickets of Kingfisher Airways, a debt-laden airline which has been regularly cancelling its flights.
