After the unfortunate incident in 2010 wherein two Navy pilots died, India Aviation 2012 will be hosted by Hyderabad after a year’s gap from March 14 to 18. The event, however, might be quite a dull affair this time around given the apprehensions and safety precautions.
This time the organisers have decided to compromise on entertainment to ensure safety. “There is no need to fear as there will be no aerobatics. We have been advised by the ministry to avoid anything that might be dangerous. We had to compromise on entertainment to ensure the safety of the people, the pilots and the participants,” informs an official of Ficci, Delhi, the organising body.
Abhinab Dutta, an aviation engineer admits that such events are prone to accidents. “What made it scarier was the fact that it was so close to the residential area.” But then the city has no other venue to offer other than the Begumpet airport as Hakimpet and Dundigal stations are under the Air Force while Shamshabad is ruled out.
“But it’s definitely a let-down that there will be no aerobatic displays this year. Now, people will only get to see a few stationary planes cordoned off. They could have opted for lesser risky displays involving paratroopers for instance,” he says.
