Worker falls to death at airport’s cargo depot

New Delhi A construction worker fell from a height of 25 feet while handling a plank of steel at the Indira Gandhi International Airport’s (IGI) cargo terminal on Friday evening. The victim’s co-worker has levelled allegations against the contractor, alleging that safety measures were not in order. Police are yet to make any arrests in the case.
Sources said this is the fourth such incident reported at the IGI airport over the last year, the two earlier ones being at the Aerocity project.
The incident was reported around 10 pm on Friday at the under-construction cargo Terminal 1B, where the victim Ramroop Sak, from Etawa in Uttar Pradesh, was handling a plank of steel with his co-workers.
In his complaint to the police, Ramroop’s co-worker, Pradeep Kumar alleged that, “Ramroop and I were handling the plank of steel when it suddenly slipped. However, Ramroop too fell from a height of 25 feet face down.”
Ramroop was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
