Amausi airport's apron area under CBI scanner

Lucknow: A day after the CBI raided the new terminal of the Amausi airport in connection with irregularities pertaining to allotment of contract and use of sub-standard material, sources on Thursday hinted that the investigation agency is tracing the roots of irregularities to the apron area that underwent expansion around three years ago.
Airport officials said that CBI sleuths seized documents related to procurement of construction materials like cement that was used in construction of the huge apron area (area where aircraft are parked, loaded/unloaded and refuelled), which has the capacity to house more than a dozen aircraft. It also has markings suggestive of the load bearing capacity, according to which the aircraft are parked on a slated spots.
Initially, the apron area was 33,966 square metres, sufficient to house only seven aircraft like Airbus-300, Airbus-310, Airbus-320 and Boeing-737. In 2007, it was proposed that it be expanded to 98,250 square metres at an estimated cost of Rs 40 crore.
