Court sends woman to 10 yrs in jail for possessing drugs

New Delhi: A Manipuri woman, caught with over over 1.4 kgs of heroin at domestic airport here in 2005 and held guilty of working as a drug "carrier", has been has been sentenced to 10 years in jail with a fine of Rs one lakh. Additional Sessions Judge M K Nagpal awarded 37-year-old Mankhanching Tombing the minimum sentence for her offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, saying she was just a "carrier" and not a kingpin of any drug syndicate.
