Thiruvananthapuram: Stalemate continues over the traffic rights to the Bahrain-Thiruvananthapuram-Bahrain sector that has resulted in cancellation of flights of Bahrain Air to the Thiruvananthapuram airport.
The low-fare premium privately owned national carrier of Bahrain, which had to suspend flight operations to the State capital within two weeks of starting direct flights on March 16, had hoped to resume the flights on Thursday.
Airport sources told The Hindu that the airline had only managed to get a verbal assurance from the concerned to start flights on the sector.
The assurance was given following talks held with the Civil Aviation Affairs Authority, Embassy of Bahrain in India, Indian Embassy, and Bahrain Air management in New Delhi on Monday. Since the permission was not given in writing, the airline has decided not to resume flight operations from Thursday.
Hundreds of passengers bound from Thiruvananthapuram to Bahrain and onward connections to other Gulf Cooperation Council points and destinations in the Levant and Africa have been affected.
