Ladakhi passengers subject to harassment by Go Air

Chandigarh: In spite of known fact that Ladakh remains cut off from the rest of country for more than 7 months in a year, there is no relaxation for the people of this remotest region. Morever, there are cases of harassment of the Ladakhi passengers at the Delhi Airport. One such case came to light recently at the Go Air check-in desk, when the ground staff of the airline demanded bribe to carry some extra luggage withough giving any receipt. When the passengers asked for a receipt, the airline created havoc.
Since the region gets disconnected from mainland for most of the year, a demand for a regular cargo flight to Leh has also been raised. So that the people living there get regula supply of fresh vegetables, fruits and other essential items. During winters, there is no other choice even for the poorest fellows, who cannot afford the airfare.
The complaint against the Go Air came to light, when renowned Buddhist Monk Bhikkhu Sanghasena was traveling to Leh. He witnessed the airline staff extracting money and misbehaving when they asked for the receipt. A group of six students carrying fruits and gifts meant for an orphanage faced problem at the check in desk. They requested to waive off at least few kilograms as a mark for the good cause, but they were treated rudely. The airline staff shouted, “Yahan insaniyat nahi chalegi, sirf paisa dena hoga” (Here only money works, no humanity).
