“Operate Air India flight from Madurai”

Madurai: A group of 12 Members of Parliament from Tamil Nadu, along with members of Travel Club, have appealed to the Union Civil Aviation Minister, Ajit Singh, to make Air India the first airline to operate international flights from Madurai.
In a memorandum submitted to the Minister in New Delhi on Wednesday, they emphasised that Madurai would be profitable for the national career and commencement of Air India's international operations from here would provide a boost to educational and employment opportunities and industrial and tourism growth in the region. The new airport, the memorandum pointed out, had an 18, 000 square metre building with 16 check in, 20 immigration and seven customs counters, three aero bridges, three baggage conveyor belts and parking facility for 375 cars and 10 buses.
