Desi airlines' like KFA, IndiGo, losses may hit $1.4bn in FY13

Mumbai: After registering a collective loss of $2 billion in FY12, Indian carriers are likely lose another $1.3-1 .4 billion in the current fiscal.
A recent report by the Center of Asia pacific Aviation (CAPA), an aviation analysis body, shows that the airlines, particularly the national carrier , will continue to make losses. However, the low-cost-carriers and a big private airline may record a collective profit.
The report says that the domestic capacity of Indian carriers is likely to grow by 7-8 % in 2012-13 due to the 24 aircraft likely to be added in the coming months. The forecast is, however , lower than the 15% growth registered last fiscal.
"CAPA had predicted a growth of 17% last year. The capacity was brought down in the last two months of the financial year by the downsizing of Kingfisher airline," said Kapil Kaul, CEO, Indian-subcontinent and Middle East, CAPA.
