Hubli: The process of upgrading the Hubli airport to international standard has finally taken off after a seven year delay. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) floated the tenders for executing phase-I of the expansion project, which includes a facelift for the roads and highways.
Poor connectivity was blamed for industrial backwardness in the city and in order to address it, the state government came up with a proposal to upgrade the existing airport.
AAI was handed 600 acre by the state government to start the expansion. "The land is in our possession and funds have been allocated for sealing the contour of the airport by fencing. Tenders have been floated and work in this direction is set to begin soon," said D Devaraj, regional executive director, AAI.
