Vijayawada: Rejecting the proposal by people of the city to shift the Instrument Landing System (ILS) equipment at Gannavaram to ensure smoother flow of traffic on National Highway No.5 the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has said that shifting of antenna of the ILS would effectively reduce the runway length for landing using ILS.
AAI Executive Director S. Sundara Ramaman said that only a minor regulation of traffic was required to ensure its proper working.
The ILS has a defined area towards the front and rear of the antenna called the ‘critical area' which has to be free from obstructions and structures.
