Ranchi: An Mi-17 helicopter — borrowed from IAF for anti-Maoist operations in Palamau, Latehar and Garhwa — had to make an emergency landing at Chiyanki aerodrome, 6km from Daltonganj town, this morning with 14 CRPF personnel on board.
The incident, which took place 165km from the capital, is a grim reminder of the chief minister’s narrow escape on May 9, when an Agusta AW109 chopper hard-landed at Birsa Munda Airport.
The Mi-17 took off from Chiyanki for Mandal, 50km away in Latehar, around 9.30am. The mission was to ferry commandant of CRPF’s 112 Battalion Rajesh Kumar, his assistant and 12 jawans to their posts.
