Kolkata: The Union civil aviation ministry has written to the state government about its plans to raise an elite Airport Security Force (ASF) at Dum Dum airport. The detailed proposal has been sent to the state home department to keep Bengal in the loop as the Centre goes on an overdrive to enhance security in airports.
The project by the Union civil aviation ministry will be implemented any time soon, depending on the recruitment. Thanks to their familiarity with the airports, officials and personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will get the first preference followed by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The exclusive force meant for the airport under the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the civil aviation ministry will be set up on lines of the the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in the Indian Railways.
