It’s do or die for AAI in battle to retain Chennai airport control

Chennai: The Airports Authority of India appears to be in a 'perform or perish' mode in an effort to retain control of Chennai airport. With the Planning Commission insisting that the entire airport be leased to a private company or a consortium in a public-private partnership, there are fears that the airport could soon be privatized on the lines of those in Delhi and Mumbai.
AAI chairman V P Agrawal, who reviewed the new international and domestic terminal on Thursday, told employees that they should make an effort to show they can operate the new steel and glass terminal as efficiently as a private firm or a consortium.
