Kushinagar: Tourists willing to seek solace in Kushinagar may soon have the option of a comfortable air-borne journey. The Kushinagar International airport project seems to be taking shape.
The land acquisition process for the airport site has been finalized. "The site is very close to the existing air strip in Kasia tehsil of Kushinagar," district magistrate, Kushinagar, Rigzian Sampheal told TOI. The area of the site is about 250 acres and has been acquired in phases. The recent deal was finalized on mutual agreement. The farmers were paid Rs 945 - 075 per square meter which fetched about Rs 40 per acre.
The Kushinagar airport project was conceived in 2008 as part of integrated development of Buddhist circuit in Eastern UP. Additional regional tourist officer Harihar Shukla informed that the foot fall of tourist was steadily rising. Against 5.45 lakh tourists in 2006, 7.78 lakh tourists' visited Kishinagar in 2011 calendar year.
