Aviation ministry plans doing away with cabin baggage tags

Putting a tag on your cabin baggage and getting it stamped could soon be a thing of the past, as the civil aviation ministry is discussing a proposal to completely do away with this procedure. This is part of a larger plan to change the standard operating procedure (SOP) at all the airports in the country.
Across India, every passenger boarding a flight has to get a tag for the cabin baggage, which is then stamped at the security check and checked by the security personnel at the boarding gates.
“Why do we need a tag that is to be stamped and checked? There is no need for such a tag, if the security is in place. Removing tags will be inline with the airports internationally, which do not have any tags for cabin baggage,” said a senior ministry official, who did not want to be identified.
