Local bodies to give approval for buildings near airports

New Delhi: Ajit Singh, the civil aviation minister, has approved changes in bylaws regulating building activities around airports.
The move would bring relief to a large number of people living near airports. With this, local bodies would have the power to give no-objection certificates for buildings near airports if the construction conforms to building regulations prepared by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
A ministry official said, “The changes will bring greater transparency and efficiency in the processes of approval for constructing buildings around airports and will simplify the present cumbersome procedure, significantly reducing the time taken for sanction of building maps.”
Until now, for the construction of any buildings around airports, the body concerned had to go to the Airports Authority of India for approval.
