Ministry delays terminal opening

Chennai: Though the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is keen on opening new terminals at the Chennai airport, the civil aviation ministry seems to have put the brakes on it.
“We want to open the new buildings at the earliest, but then we have been asked by aviation secretary K. N. Srivastava, who visited the Chennai airport recently, to fix all the teething issues and open the terminals in a full-fledged manner,” AAI chairman V. P. Agrawal told DC.
The aviation secretary seems to have echoed the sentiments of the airline companies which wanted modern facilities like in-line baggage system, aerobridges, master concessionaries and a computerised Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) right from the beginning.
