Chennai: Visitors and passengers at the Chennai airport are increasingly finding it difficult to locate trolleys to transport luggage. The problem is acute during the morning and also at peak hours during the night, they say.
Nearly a fortnight ago V. Santhanam, a Chromepet-based RTI activist who went to the airport to see off his daughter, experienced this problem and filed a complaint with the duty manager of the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The AAI recently responded with an explanation for the problem. A senior AAI officer said the work of retrieving the trolleys was given to a contractor and his tenure ended on April 30. Due to the construction work at the airport, a lot of dust and sand has gathered on the trolleys and not many people wish to advertise their products on them. This was a major reason for the contractor refusing to renew the agreement.
