Airports Authority of India providing international airport facilities at places with tourism potential

Mumbai: Airports Authority of India (AAI) is now going providing international airport facilities at places with tourism potential. Recently, AAI sanctioned eight airports which will be made into international airports. Among these are airports like Agra, Bhubaneshwar, Coimbatore, Mangalore, Lucknow and even Varanasi. The reason for providing international airport status to airports at these places is the tourism development potential there.
Whether these airport would be able to attract foreign carriers is a matter of speculation. AAI chairman, VP Agarwal, said that these places are big tourist spots and having international airports would further tourism. This is why AAI will be setting up facilities required for international travel.
