Passengers to the Hubli airport will soon have better amenities, with more safety and security.
After the introduction of Spicejet service between Hubli-Bangalore, there is a demand for introducing more flights between Hubli-Mumbai, Hubli-Delhi and other parts of the country to help in the growth of Hubli, both commercially and industrially.
Keeping the growth of the city in mind, the Airport Authority of India is said to have given its nod to go ahead with the upgrading of the airport. As a part of the upgrade, a canopy will be built on the long stretch of land in the airport premises for the convenience of passengers waiting for their flights. Passengers will be provided with comfortable seats, drinking water facilities, luggage room etc.
The long pending demand to build a boundary wall for the safety of passengers and for securing the airport will also be taken up. Speaking to TOI, K M Basavaraju, director, Hubli airport said: "The Airport Authority of India has approved the proposal to construct a boundary wall around the airport on 959 acres of land at a cost of Rs 9 crore for the safety of the airport."
