Kolkata airport upgrade deadline unrealistic, feels project incharge

Kolkata: As work on the new integrated terminal at Kolkata airport - the biggest project undertaken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in recent years - nears completion, the management has begun reviewing the processes to identify reasons for the delay and fix them so that it does not recur when the next phase of modernization is taken up in five to six years.
Work on the 30-month Kolkata airport upgrade project began in January 2009 and was to be completed by June 2012 but was deferred first to August, then October, December and now January 2013. Many are apprehensive that while a formal inauguration may be done, full-fledged operations at the new terminal may be held up even longer with all airlines shifting to the new facility only by mid-2013.
