Kolkata: Work of the new integrated passenger terminal at the city airport had started way back in 2009. The Rs 2,325-crore upgrade project was supposed to be completed in June 2011. However, patience of the fliers was put on a test over the last couple of years or so as the deadline was deferred six times during this period. Finally, the terminal is all set to handle operations. President Pranab Mukherjee will inaugurate the terminal on January 20 and the first flight will arrive three days later, on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary.
Announcing the inauguration date of the integrated terminal, Kolkata airport passenger facilitation committee chairman Saugata Roy on Thursday said civil aviation minister Ajit Singh, Governor MK Narayanan and chief minister Mamata Banerjee will also be present at the function.
It will, however, take another couple of months before all carriers migrate to the new terminal and operate flights from there.
