Mumbai: India's national carrier was on Tuesday dragged to the Bombay high court by Indian Commercial Pilot's Association, which filed a petition to challenge two recent notifications by Air India saying the pilots would be paid only 75% of the arrears till November 2012.
Moreover, said the pilots, the cash-strapped airline, despite lengthy settlement discussions, had now decided that the 75% arrears would be given out as ad hoc payments, pending final adoption of the revised pay. It will be adjusted against the final payment.
The association represented by advocate Cherag Balsara and counsel Ravi Kadam pointed out before a bench headed by Justice Ajay Khanwilkar that the issue required urgent consideration, especially since November 2011, the AI had fixed pilots emoluments for 72 flying hours as well as the "lay over subsistence allowance".
