GMR has overdue BPT, airport service charge: MIRA

Former Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) operator India's GMR Group has overdue Business Profit Tax (BPT) and Airport Service Charge for last December, Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) said Tuesday.
The Maldives government had terminated the contract with GMR and expropriated the airport on December 7, 2012.
A top official MIRA revealed that GMR has to pay around USD1 million as BPT and added that the authority was trying to obtain the amount from the Indian infrastructure giant.
“GMR cannot leave without settling the outstanding payments. The money owed to MIRA will be recovered even if the accounts have to be frozen,” official said.
