Panaji: At a debate over Mopa-Dabolim airport issue held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on Monday, speakers made a strong pitch for sustainable development for Goa, even as the discussion underscored the need for a public debate over the issue with a view to taking the public into confidence over the project. Former executive director, airports authority of India (AAI) R C Khurana, was of the view that Goa needed a new airport but expressed his reservation over whether Mopa will prove to be a sustainable project. In the second session that saw politicians debating over the issue, Congress spokesman Alex Reginald Laurenco, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai expressed their views. While Laurenco said that there was no need for two airports, Godinho stressed that Dabolim will continue to be a civilian airport.
