Two unattended bag instances in three days at Mumbai airport


Mumbai: On Sunday, the Mumbai airport reported two instances of unattended baggage which sparked a bomb alert. Around noon, an unattended bag was spotted inside the international terminal in the departure area. The bag was black and had been there for more than 30 minutes. A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) was summoned to check the bag. In the evening, around 8 pm, a bag was found abandoned on a trolley at the entrance of the domestic terminal. BDDS was summoned to check the bag. In both case, the bags turned out to be empty and the bomb alarm a hoax.
According to Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials, such incidents are fairly common at the airport with many passengers either forgetting or even deliberately dumping an empty bag. There instances in three days on an average.
