Ahmedabad: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has earmarked Rs 50 crore to upgrade the runway of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport so that the world's biggest passenger aircraft Airbus-380 can land here in near future.
The fund has been earmarked as part of the modernisation project of six airports in the state, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhanvanagar.
In response to a question by Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani, Minister of State for Civil Aviation K C Venugopal stated that total Rs 322 crore would be spent on these airports under the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-2017).
