Mumbai: Security woes persist at Juhu airport despite repeated terror and hijack threats over the past two years. The airport has filed six FIRs with the local police since 2011 for theft of barbed wire from fences installed to keep hutment-dwellers at bay and damage caused to lampposts put up to spot intruders.
Eight of the nine security watchtowers have also been vandalized and rendered useless over the past six months.
The airport will be at constant risk of incursions and thefts until a concrete wall comes up to separate the facility from the Indira Nagar and Nehru Nagar hutments, say Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials.
