Perform-or-perish call at airport meet

Kolkata: Review of signage, proper management of baggage trolleys, frequent cleaning of toilets, rejig in aircraft parking, improved coordination between operators and the CISF, better dust control and adherence to protocols at the baggage carousal figured prominently at the first transition review meeting since all airlines moved into the new integrated terminal.
At the four-and-half hour marathon stock-taking meeting held on Saturday, airlines officials pointed to the need for better directions - right from VIP Road to the boarding gate - for passengers. "Clear signage is elementary. Though the signage at the new terminal is better than the old ones, there is need for more directions," an airline official told airport director BP Sharma. With other airline representatives also expressing the same view, Sharma decided to jointly review the signage and improve upon them where necessary. On their part, airlines agreed to adhere to protocol at baggage carousals to ensure that the sensor-fitted advanced conveyor belts functioned properly. Over the past five days, passengers of some flights, particularly those on the international sector, have had a prolonged wait to claim their baggage.
