A day after DNA raised the issue of how passengers were being hijacked and charged exorbitant fares by autorickshaw drivers and touts at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA), a meeting took place between the police and airport officials on Friday.
After the meeting, director of SVPIA, RK Singh, announced that security personnel had been asked to be strict with intruders. “The meeting was held to discuss some issues related to auto parking and other issues of safety and security of passengers and airport. We have asked the security staff not to allow any person or auto driver to jump the barricade and enter into the prohibited area of the arrival terminal,” Singh told DNA.
Besides Singh, the meeting was attended by several police officers, including DH Parmar, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), AM Muniya, DCP zone 4 and PM Bhaliya, ACP ‘G’ division.
