Mumbai: Air India will have to pay Rs3,500 in compensation to a flyer who complained that the in-flight entertainment system did not work on a 17-hour flight he took in 2008. The South Mumbai district consumer disputes redressal forum directed the airlines to pay the amount to M Rameshkumar (additional chief secretary-relief & rehabilitation-revenue & forests department.
On November 22, 2008, Rameshkumar flew from New York to Mumbai. In his complaint, filed before the forum on September 10, 2009, he alleged that a short while after takeoff he found that the entertainment system for his seat was not working. Despite informing the crew, the problem remained unattended.
"The (airlines) ought to have checked whether the system was in working condition prior to departure from New York and ought to have repaired it while the aircraft was at London Airport for about 2 hours," Rameshkumar said in the complaint.
