Airports Authority of India hopes for international tag for Bhubaneswar airport

Bhubaneswar: Airports Authority of India (AAI) has expressed hopes of getting international recognition from Union civil aviation ministry for BijuPatnaik airport by the end of April. The old domestic terminal is being modified for international flights operation.
"The modification work at the old domestic terminal is going on in full swing and it is expected to be complete by the end of June. In the first phase we will realign the conveyor belts and remove the iron railings. Then we will create a counter for custom and immigration officials," the airport director, Sharad Kumar, said, adding that they expect the international recognition by the end of April.
Presently, the conveyor belt alignment has been done according to the requirements of a domestic terminal. The custom department will keep track of the incoming and outgoing goods, a prerequisite of an international terminal.
