Andhra Pradesh police seek CISF cover for domestic airports

Hyderabad: As security at some domestic airports in the state is not foolproof, the Andhra Pradesh police have requested the Union government to provide Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) cover to these facilities in view of the recent terror strike in Dilsukhnagar.
On several occasions, intelligence agencies had suggested that security be beefed up at domestic airports as they could become soft targets for terrorists or extremists. However, their pleas fell on deaf ears and the airports at Gannavaram ( Vijayawada) and Maduravada (Rajahmundry) are manned by security personnel from the State Armed Reserve.
Presently, 10-15 personnel provide security at these airports, where only domestic flights are operated. Incidentally, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) base station is located at Madhuravada airport.
