Nagpur: Even as privatization of eight airports is on the cards, there are no such plans for Nagpur immediately, said union civil aviation minister Ajit Singh. He was in the city to inaugurate the new statute of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on the leader's birth anniversary.
"Ahmedabad may be privatized, but Nagpur is not on the list as of now," said Singh. Since the airport is run in a joint venture between Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Maharashtra Airport Development Company, the state will have to take a decision on this, he told reporters.
A source in the civil aviation ministry said that since Nagpur is a loss-making airport, it has to be marketed well to attract a private partner. The AAI-MADC joint venture is eyeing a third partner for capital infusion, and may rope in private players.
