Loaders caught for helping smugglers clear 2kg gold from airport


Mumbai: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs arrested a 25-year-old loader of Jet Airways for allegedly helping smugglers to clear a baggage in which 2kg gold worth Rs55 lakhs was smuggled from Dubai and brought into Mumbai on Sunday. Acting on a tip off received, the AIU officials kept a watch on the movement of loader Prashant Kanade and caught him red-handed while trying to clear the gold baggage from the other side of the Airport that is used by loaders.
Officials were shocked and showed concern over the smuggling that is carried out with the help of loaders by paying Rs20,000 commission to clear the smuggled valuables out of the airport. The officials fears it could have turned out serious if RDX have brought in. The smugglers sponsors poor and handicap people in getting them flight tickets and Rs5,000 commission in return they are asked to carry the consignment baggage, which the victim is unaware about the content in it. After the consignment is uploaded in the flight from Dubai, the smuggler from there get in touch with the loader in Mumbai of the concerned flight and gives details of the bag and the tag number that helps in identifying it,"" said the officials.
