Nagpur: After months of delay Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has finally decided to distribute electricity in Mihan, which will finally provide cheap power to the industries and firms located in the special economic zone (SEZ).
After a request from MADC the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has prepared draft license regulations of MADC and has invited suggestions and objections on it. Earlier, it had decided not to become a distribution licensee which forced Mihan units to buy costly power from MSEDCL.
In November 2007 MADC and Abhijeet Group had signed an agreement wherein the two were to form a joint venture to set up a power plant for supplying power solely to the industries located inside Mihan at rate of Rs 2.97 per unit. Then MADC applied for a distribution licence for Mihan and obtained it in August 2012. In the meantime the company and signed an agreement with Abhijeet to increase the rate of power and then sought MERC's approval.
