Mumbai: The departure terminal buildings of Mumbai airport are an easy target for terrorists and anti-social elements, reveals a security audit conducted by Mumbai police.
The audit, conducted in the first week of April, states that while aircrafts, baggage section and passengers themselves are safe, the checkin counters and concourse area of terminal buildings - both domestic and international - are sitting ducks.
“We have written to the airport officials regarding the drawbacks in the security system. Our findings reveal that there is a need for increased vigilance and scanning of passengers and baggage when they enter the terminal building,” a police official said.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Security and Protection) Madhukar Pande refused to elaborate on the issue and said, “This pertains to the security of the airport and I cannot comment on it.” The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is responsible for the airport’s security.
