Rethink on ‘threat’ from Aerocity hospitality district to IGAI: Aviation ministry to BCAS

New Delhi: An exasperated aviation ministry has written to BCAS ( Bureau of Civil Aviation Security) to spell out the exact threat perception from Aerocity hospitality district to Indira Gandhi International Airport.
In all meetings that aviation authorities have had with various security agencies, the main threat that has been cited is that of the runway being in direct line of sight from four of 12 hotels. But a joint team of aviation and security officials that recently visited the United States and Amsterdam to see how hotels in big airport cities function found exactly the same situation there.
"Being in line of sight cannot be a security threat. So far we have not been told of any other reason to suspect a threat from the hotels. We will like to know if there are some other factors that are worrying the agencies," said a senior official.
