AAI gives green signal to bridge over river adyar

Chennai: Noting that the apprehensions raised about the bridge over Adyar river by  residents of Maxworth Nagar are untrue, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) told reporters that the bridge would soon be partially opened for operations. “We are waiting for Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) clearance to use 7,500 feet length of the runway,” said AAI executive director (projects) S. Bhaduri.
Refuting the claim by residents that the bridge was not constructed as per safety standards, Bhaduri said the structure of the bridge was perfectly alright and that it would be proved when the first flight lands on it. “The undulations in the structure were a result of deliberately adjusting differential levels to the tops of various piers, so as to reduce the wearing coat thickness on top and to facilitate drainage,” he added.
